Michael Mangan
Michael Mangan
Michael Mangan came to sing with us on
Thursday 17 May. We started with a welcome by Emma and I, then we sang a really
catchy song ‘Come Together Let’s Celebrate’. After singing ‘Come Together Let’s
Celebrate’ we sang another song that was a bit like the first one ‘Celebrate,
Let’s Celebrate’. We used a lot of really cool actions for all the songs, and
we had heaps of fun clapping rythms. My favourite songs to listen, sing and do
actions to were ‘Create A new Heart’, ‘Common Good’ and ‘Justice and freedom’. Michael
has written over 250 songs, but unfortunately we only got to sing a few. Wow!
It was a great morning and we were really grateful to have the chance to
actually listen to someone as talented as Mr Mangan and learn 8 or 9 new songs.

Catholic Cathedral College Roadshow!
Catholic Cathedral College Road show
Today the travelling Catholic Cathedral
College (CCC) Roadshow came to NBC. We were entertained by many different
cultural performances including; kappahaka,
theatre sports (who performed a skit in 1 minute, 30 seconds, 15 seconds
and then 7 seconds- which was exhilarating!),
choir (who sung ‘Beautiful Day’ and a song from the ‘Blues
Brothers’), a Samoan song which was performed at also performed at
Polyfest, a Filipino dance involving boys with fish nets and girls dressed in
blue and white flower dresses (I loved how they indirectly told the story of
marine life getting caught in nets), more theatre sports where they had to
freeze in the middle of a scene and start a new one, a song which was originally sung by Sam
Smith, called ‘Way too Good at Goodbyes’ . It was an excellent afternoon and we
really appreciate Catholic Cathedral College performance. We (the Year 7 &
8 class) were lucky enough to have a short workshop with the students from CCC
at the end of the performance.

NBC Picnic
NBC Picnic
Last Tuesday we held our school picnic in the Domain and in the school grounds. It was a great time. There were bouncy castles, face painting, silly bikes, games
and people eating! It looked like everyone had a blast. I enjoyed the silly bikes
especially the ski sled bike and tandem bikes. A big thank you to all the people
who helped organise the evening, especially Miss Buckley!

Holy Spirit- Pentecost Display
Holy Spirit Display
On Tuesday we helped Hannah Williams-Blakey make a Holy Spirit sculpture in the
library to coincide with Pentecost on Sunday. Hannah works in a library in town
and organises craft groups for kids of all ages. We started by cutting and
gluing together some paper doves that everyone in the school made during buddy
prayers last week. Then we cut out some triangles to represent the flames of
the Holy Spirit. Once we cut them out Hannah stapled them to the wall to form
flames, while she was doing that we pinned the doves to the wall. It is a
inspirational sculpture and we feel if you see it you will be touched by the
Holy Spirit. Hopefully you can come and see it tomorrow.

Miriama Kamo
On Tuesday 8th May, Miriama Kamo came to NBC to talk to the juniors (year 1-3) and
Intermediate children (Year 7 & 8) about her book The Stolen Stars Of Matariki
Which is due to be released in May this year. She also spoke about her journalism
career as a radio announcer and producer at National Radio, and then her work
at TVNZ.
Hayley introduced herself with her Mihi and Miriama then introduced
herself in Te reo as well. After that she told us a little bit about what she has done in her
career. We had the opportunity to ask questions such ‘Who inspired you in your
life?’. She answered our questions and told us about her time at NBC. Overall her
talk was very inspiring to all of us and we were grateful for her visit.
